Only upgrade a few right now as to not run out of tools. After the chapel you should be able to start upgrading peasants to citizens. Build the chapel once peasants reach 90.ĥ. Depending on starting condition you'll likely run out before producing your own. As the peasants move in build a market building away from your residential area but with enough space for a cider farm and later on hemp farms. Build enough peasant houses to have a decent tax base. Try to leave some room in the center for the chapel, tavern etc. All land around it will be for residences. Build market far away from your production area. BTW hold SHIFT as you place them so you can see the boundaries of the previous one.ģ. Sometimes it's 100% but falls to 90% after I put in access road. Haven't figured out how having roads in logging area affects efficiency. Put your warehouse close to stone and neutral buildings, then build one fish hut and 2-3 log camps. Find island with cider and hemp fertility, stone and iron.Ģ. Perhaps trade is more important in a competitive map though, with less resources per island.ġ. Maybe later on trade'll make more money, but in the beginning because anything you make is needed for your expansion anything you sell is in a pretty low volume, and it'll almost always cheaper in the long run to produce something yourself rather than buying it. Given that you can't assign prices to goods, I guess all ports pay the same, but it does seem that the more processed goods fetch more (but raw gold compared to processed iron?). Place your market buildings so that it'll support the max number of production buildings with the least amount of roads. Disable automatic ascension (upgrading peasants to citizen etc.) so they don't eat up all your resources needed for production buildings. I'm finding that keeping a leash on your initial expansion is the ticket. Also, you can set the tax level on them when you click on a house by moving the slider on the bar under their portrait that shows their happiness. You make more money off of each higher tier of people. If you want to step up your regular income, make sure your peasant houses are upgrading to citizen houses, and so on and so forth. And your feif lord is an idiot.īut the game is very fun. Guy Forcas is the name you are thinking of, and yes, the devs of this game are beating us over the head with a bag of bricks the fact that he is a bad guy. And I am pretty sure Dawn of Discovery pulls a lot of power with the effects turned up, because the water is very very detailed, along with weather and light effects refracted from the water. WoW requires fewer calculations from your video card's processor, so it doesn't draw as much power, thus it doesn't generate as much heat. With regards to your video card, no, it won't run all out all the time. It will be interesting to see how long this game can hold my interest. And I don't have to deal with pesky pollution. :-) I also find that unlike my SimCity 4 experience, I don't seem to stall out mid-way, unable to advance to larger buildings. It's not perfect, but it's really really fun as far as city builders go. Which also annoys me: why does it say my regular income is negative, when in fact, with trade routes, it's positive? Fortunately, I always set up trade routes to keep my treasury growing even if my "regular income" goes red. I find that if I just build more peasant homes, my money goes back in the green. I also find myself going into negative "regular income" frequently. When I click on his dock, it just brings up a screen with 6 empty slots, no buy/sell like the Orient, English, or Corsairs.

For example, on the map I'm on now there is another computer player that just tells me how much he envies me, but I can't figure out how to have any sort of interaction with him, even trade. The only major downside is it's impossible to find help when you don't understand something. I think my next game will be continuous and I'll disable them.

Right now I'm playing the Diplomat challenge and it's very fun, though I'm starting to get annoyed with the quests. I played some of the campaign but really started to hate the quests of the "bad guy". And I don't really buy the "WoW isn't detailed" argument, because whether I'm getting 5 fps or 100 fps in either game, the graphics card should be going all-out regardless, right? I don't know what they're doing, but my GTX 260 gets about 10 C hotter playing Dawn of Discovery than something like WoW. One thing I noticed is that it works my graphics card harder than any other game by a long shot.

I'm also hoping for them to patch out the TAGES DRM. I've had this game a few weeks now and am playing it non-stop.
